Stray Policy

The Animal Emergency Clinic, PA is the only fully staffed after-hours emergency facility in the Greenville area.  The hospital was established to provide quality, after-hours emergency and critical care support to local veterinarians and their clients.  We have a staff of veterinarians and support personnel including licensed veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and receptionists.

We function completely on the compensation we receive for treating emergency and critical care cases.  We do not receive any funds from county, state, federal or private sources.

Additionally, we must adhere to strict guidelines in the daily operation of our clinic to meet the American Animal Hospital Associations high standards for emergency care.

We understand that many animals in the Greenville area are left without proper care and/or without anyone responsible for their care.  In order to be humane and compassionate to these "strays" we have a strict policy for dealing with said cases.

   1.   We have no boarding facilities here, nor do we have daytime staff.  Therefore we will not take in a healthy stray.  These must be taken to the Greenville Humane Society on Furman Hall Road or an alternate rescue group at your discretion.

   2.   Injured stray animals will be treated as follows:

a.   If the stray animal is seriously injured and is given a poor prognosis, we will elect  to humanely euthanize the stray.

b.   If  the animal has sustained only minor injuries and the rescuer wishes to assume responsibility for the animal, we will treat the animal at a discounted rate and release the animal to the rescuer's care.

   3.  There are no exceptions to this policy.
